2004 Nordhavn 47

HAPPY is ready for sale by her second owners who have cruised her along the Atlantic seaboard for the past twelve years, primarily traveling during the summer months. HAPPY is hull number 16, a 2004 model year.

If you are familiar with the popularity of the Nordhavn 47, you will appreciate that HAPPY was ordered with the most commonly desired features: Flybridge with fiberglass stack. Two-stateroom, two-head interior layout. Her interior woodwork is teak. Two significant improvements over her many sister ships are the hydraulics package for the bow thruster and windlass.

On deck she features a high boarding gate on the starboard side of the Portuguese bridge to compliment the custom Marquip boarding ramp. Happy also benefits from her upgraded Nautical Structures crane allowing for a much larger, 14’ Novurania RIB mounted on an innovative lifting chock arrangement that has no fasteners in the boat deck.

As you would expect, she is powered by a dependable Lugger main engine – keel cooled, dry stack and for redundancy she has a Yanmar wing engine.For a smooth ride underway she has ABT TRAC active fin stabilizers.

Her Northern Lights 12kw generator provides electricity including powering the MarinAire air conditioning.She also has a Spectra water maker and a host of great upgrades and improvements which will be highlighted as you read on.

Happy’s interior is gorgeous and practical with obvious care and attention.

The Nordhavn 47 is a serious, offshore, long range passage maker. Sister ships have accumulated thousands of cruising miles offshore including Atlantic and Pacific Ocean crossings. One of the 47’s strongest appeals is that her size allows for generous accommodations, but is not too large, she is an ideal vessel for two people to handle, manage and enjoy.

The cockpit serves as an arrival deck, from the dock through the starboard side boarding door and from the transom through the swim platform door.The swim platform has staples and a hinged swim ladder.

There is a large hatch access to the lazarette below. The 50-amp Glendinning shore power connection was cleverly installed to exit the starboard side of the hull. The covered starboard side deck transits outside the saloon forward and up to the Portuguese bridge and foredeck and/or allows access into the saloon entry level through her Dutch door.

Along the side decks are two built in fender board storage racks. Overhead is a track with sliding cars to set up your fender arrangement with many options.

At the top of the steps, you will see the Tide Ride boarding ramp that makes tall dock access much easier.

The saloon is a welcoming entry to the warm interior featuring teak finish. There are windows outboard for excellent visibility and two open on either side for cross ventilation. In the saloon you will enjoy comfortable (and freshly re-upholstered) settees to port and starboard with a fixed teak table on the starboard side, ideal for dining. There is a portable stool that can serve as a footrest or another chair for dining. Laundry appliances feature separate Whirlpool clothes washer stacked over a Whirlpool clothes dryer (dryer replaced in 2026) both hidden behind a louvered door forward to starboard just outboard of the stairway to the pilothouse.

The galley is ideal for cooking and preparing meals. There are granite counters and a double basin stainless steel sink with garbage disposal and Steamin’ Hot on demand faucet. The Miele all electric glass cooktop and electric oven handle larger meals, and the GE microwave is convenient to heat up ready to go, faster meals. The SubZero refrigerator is home sized and includes two freezer drawers. Additional appliances include a Broan trash compactor and a Miele dishwasher. There is overhead storage with doors on saloon and galley side, plus sliding locker alcove access forward of the stove. There are a variety of drawers and lockers for storing glasses, dishes, utensils and silverware.

This is the primary operations center and the nerve center of the Nordhavn 47. The highest interior point provides an exceptional vantage for monitoring your surroundings. The Stidd high back helm chair is a commanding driver’s seat with an impressive, comfortable view. The arrangement of navigation and communications makes for easy access to systems and clear sight lines outboard and inside to view displays.

Happy enjoys a practical helm area within convenient reach of controls for the bow and stern thruster, windlass, watermaker, main engine, wing engine and generator. The electrical breaker panel is installed in a convenient island panel with clearly labeled breakers and digital read out displays. There is seating aft and up high, behind the operations console with a bench seat and teak table for crew and guests. Across the port aft bulkhead is a large watch berth.Two Dutch doors open outboard to allow access to the side decks: starboard and forward to the Portuguese bridge deck – aft to port for the boat deck and flybridge.

To reach the staterooms and heads on the accommodations deck you descend down a curved set of teak steps passing the built-in freezer and then reach the lower-level landing where you can go forward to the guest stateroom and head or aft to the owner’s stateroom and engine room.

The owner’s stateroom features a fore/aft queen-sized island berth accessible on three sides. To port there are two hanging lockers and a bank of drawers (with a hinged laundry hamper). Additional drawers are under the bed. The bed lifts on a hinge to reveal a huge space for additional long-term storage. On the forward bulkhead is a dresser with drawers and a mirror. The owner’s stateroom includes an ensuite head and shower outboard to starboard and also provides immediate access to the engine room aft through a tall commercial door with teak trim and a viewing window.

The guest stateroom is forward, directly below the foredeck. There is a wide double berth outboard to port, with convenient pipe berth “cot” tucked away in a shelf cabinet. Hanging lockers forward on both sides with some drawers under the bed make for plenty of clothing storage. Additional lockers and storage spaces provide additional places to tuck things away neatly. The starboard side has a convenient built-in desk with a swing out chair. The bow section has a private head and shower.

The headroom height and access around the Lugger engine sets the Nordhavn 47 apart from other cruising trawlers in her class. Direct access is provided through the tall door in the owner stateroom. The Lugger main engine propulsion is keel cooled with a dry stack exhaust. Outboard there are two large built-in fiberglass diesel tanks with sight glasses. Forward to port is the fuel valving selection locker with return and transfer manifolds and a large gravity fed aluminum supply tank for the main and generator. Also to port are the protected Racor filters with easy viewing. Outboard up forward, hinged opening lockers grant easy access to the active fin stabilizers.The aft section of the engine room has the Yanmar wing engine to port and Northern Lights generator to starboard.The room is well lit and easy to move around in. You can also enter/exit the engine room aft through the door connected to the lazarette.

There is a large hatch in the cockpit sole that hinges open to enable you to climb down a short ladder to enter the lazarette. This area has important equipment and is also arranged to allow for the storage of “extras” whether that is spare oil, cleaning supplies, a dock cart, whatever!It is relatively easy to check on and inspect the steering, crane machinery, water maker, central vacuum, batteries, select switches, fuses, battery charger and inverter. Both the engine room and the lazarette are protected with built in fire suppression.There is a door that connects the lazarette with the engine room.

The foredeck is high off the water, benefits from a level deck surface, and is accessed through a door in the Portuguese bridge. The ABT hydraulic bow thruster is a significant upgrade. The foredeck begins with a large stainless steel railed pulpit, dual bow rollers for anchors and chain, an upgraded Maxwell hydraulic windlass and Freeman hatch to reach the divided chain locker below. The anchor well is guttered to contain and drain overboard muddy chain water. There are two molded-in fiberglass storage lockers. Dorade vents provide fresh air ventilation to each stateroom. Primary shore power connections are concealed behind a hinged door aft to port.

The Portuguese bridge is the moat protecting the pilothouse castle. This deck affords safe outside on-deck travel. A door leads forward to the foredeck, and on the port side the wrap around leads aft to stairs that take you up to the boat deck. There are portlights built into the guest stateroom and storage lockers incorporated forward for quick access gear stowage.

The boat deck features an upgraded Nautical Structures crane and an oversized Novurania rigid inflatable tender. The Novurania 14’ extends aft over the cockpit and is supported with an aluminum cradle structure. This deck is hemmed with tall stainless steel safety rails. When the dinghy is launched it is a wide deck space.

The view from the flybridge is one of the highlights of being aboard. The flybridge is accessed up via a short set of steps and the most popular location to operate Happy while underway. The flybridge has a custom hardtop for all weather enjoyment. There are two helm chairs here so you can cruise side by side.The starboard helm seat is set up for primary command with displays and controls for nav/com electronics positioned for easy viewing and adjusting. There is storage forward under the brow through locker doors. There are two folding chairs aft. Two large zipper pouches for life jackets and accessories are installed on the aft railing.
