Introduction
The Kadey Krogen 58 Pilothouse design is an ideal long-range trawler for an active cruising couple. Tapestry is hull number 9 in the series, a 2005 model year boat with the popular widebody arrangement — ocean-ready rugged and elegantly sophisticated, a pleasing blend of form and function. She has been lovingly looked after, regularly upgraded, and presents as a much younger-looking yacht than her model year designation. The cherry wood joinery, carpet over parquet wood soles, Corian counters, comfortable Ultra-leather upholstery and large windows create a very spacious, comfortable and homey environment for spending extended time aboard. The navigation and communications helm electronics in the pilothouse and on the flybridge were both modernized in 2016.
Accommodations
The interior accommodations on Tapestry are arranged into a two-cabin, two-head layout with an additional office utility area. The starboard guest cabin has two single beds for visitors and shares the independent head and shower in the hallway forward to starboard, which can become ensuite for guest privacy. The owner cabin is forward with an island queen berth on center, bed stands, built-in seats, drawers, lockers and incredible ventilation and light via overhead hatches and outboard opening portlights; the head and shower are connected, making this a large and private stateroom. The well-appointed galley has a propane stove, microwave convection oven and 22 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer.
Description
Tapestry is listed for sale after her owners lived aboard and cruised extensively for over six years. Located in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, she is positioned to depart for New England waters or head down the east coast to the Chesapeake and beyond. Prior to offering her for sale, the current owner thoughtfully went through the boat to address normal maintenance issues and ensure all systems are current. She is powered by twin John Deere 6068TFM50 main engines (158 bhp each) and boasts 12 kW and 20 kW Northern Lights generators, ABT TRAC hydraulic active stabilizers (9 sq. ft. fins), an ABT 25 HP hydraulic bow thruster, a Spectra 24V 400 GPD watermaker and five Cruisair reverse cycle climate control units.
Cockpit and Swim Platform
Vessel boarding from the stern is via the swim platform with access through the transom door or port side cockpit door. There are three removable stainless staple rails installed for swim platform convenience and aft boarding safety. Shore power electrical connections are conveniently located in the cockpit as well as at the bow, and a console with freshwater sink and storage below is in the cockpit. The cockpit is enclosed with EZ2See clear plastic windows and includes roll-down textilene sunshades plus a full set of cockpit screens. Flooring is natural teak wood, and there is a hot and cold rinse shower. Entry to the cockpit also includes the full-size main entry door from the starboard side deck, and the wing door to port is perfect for side access for easy dinghy docking alongside. All cockpit rails are Awlgrip-painted teak in bristol condition.
Lazarette
Access to the lazarette is through the large hatch in the cockpit as well as through the rear engine room bulkhead door. The lazarette cockpit hatch has an internal deadbolt to help secure the vessel while at anchor or away. The lazarette is a great open space which houses the main steering controls and rudder shafts and two automatic shore power cable retractor storage containers, with plenty of room for mechanical spares, supplies and extra gear.
Saloon
Entry into the saloon is through the double aluminum weather-tight doors and opens to a wonderful bright open space. There is an L-settee to starboard covered in Ultra-leather, with a cabinet alongside and storage below. Directly in front of the settee is a large hi-lo table with foldouts and ample seating for up to twelve. The saloon is spacious due to the widebody design, with room for extra chairs or an additional sofa. The interior walls are beautiful cherry wood, with sliding windows to port and starboard, a cherry valance, screens, blinds and side window treatments. Flooring is wood parquet covered with a modern decorative tan carpet. Other attributes include a concealed double sliding cabinet in the galley wall, a Visio 40" TV/monitor and an overhead safety grab rail.
Galley
The open-faced galley is forward of the saloon on the starboard side. It includes abundant food preparation space atop the Corian counters and multiple lockers and drawers for provisions, cookware and utensils. Tapestry has an impressive complement of appliances including a Viking Professional four-burner gas range with gas oven, GE Profile microwave convection oven, JENN-AIR full-size double-door refrigerator/freezer, a Bosch SilencePlus automatic dishwasher and a Monogram trash compactor. The Corian countertop has a dual sink with vented storage cabinets and drawers, and to starboard a side weather door allows ventilation and access to the side deck. Across from the galley and fully to port is an open buffet with shelving above, drawers, vented cabinets and icemaker below, with a larger pantry to the right.
Port Office and Utility Area
Just a few steps down forward of the galley is a joint office and utility area. The office area has a desktop with keyboard tray, forward shelving and ample storage to the sides, and also boasts a wine refrigerator, a chart locker and a custom hidden cabinet for a sewing machine or other storage. It is amply lit by dual portlights with screens and the open hallway floor plan, and a floor hatch provides access to the mid-machinery area.
Starboard Guest Stateroom
Across from the office utility area is the comfortable starboard guest stateroom with two separate single guest beds with fitted covers and a single nightstand in between. The port wall has a large hanging locker, and two portlights with screens help brighten the space. The stateroom has a private entry door into the full day head, creating an ensuite cabin for convenience and privacy. Stylish decorative tan carpet adds comfort over the parquet wood flooring.
Guest Head
The guest head is just forward of the port guest stateroom and has center hall access as well as an ensuite guest entry. There is a single sink with vanity above and a double vented cabinet below. The head is an electric Tecma fresh water flush toilet, and there is a large linen locker on the opposite wall. To the starboard side is a stand-up shower with seat and bifold doors.
Master Stateroom
The spacious owner stateroom is forward and has a custom queen-size memory foam mattress with hydraulic lift storage below and step-up access on both sides. The roomy accommodations are due to use of the full beam width. There is a single hanging locker to port and a large hanging locker to starboard, storage bins to each side of the bed, a 10-drawer dresser with wall mirror, and an additional six drawers under the bed. Ample lighting comes from four portlights and two hatches, all with screens. The owner suite hallway door closes to provide privacy and accommodate the ensuite head to port with vanity, vented cabinets, dual mirrored cabinets, a portlight, a linen locker, a Tecma electric flush freshwater toilet and a full shower with bench and bifold doors.
Pilothouse
Forward from the galley and up a few steps is the raised pilothouse, fully equipped for offshore cruising with all necessary electronics, updated navigation electronics and required safety equipment. It is secured from both sides with aluminum welded weather-tight Dutch sea-doors, both with Phantom screens. The helm has a Stidd captain's chair and an oversized stainless destroyer wheel directly forward. Directly center are two 16" Garmin displays capable of showing navigation, radar, sonar, AIS and camera views of the engine room, saloon and stern. The engines are controlled by a ZF dual lever station, and an iPad on an I-Bolt adjustable mount provides navigation backup. To each side of the helm is storage in vented cabinets, drawers and double chart drawers. Directly behind the helm is the L-shaped watch settee with Ultra-leather that converts to a double berth with storage underneath.
Foredeck
The Kadey Krogen 58 Pilothouse is rugged-looking with a tall bow that will cleave the waves and offer a dry ride in most sea conditions. The ground tackle arrangement includes a Maxwell 3500 double chainwheel hydraulic windlass with capstan and a self-launching Rocna 70 (154 lb.) main anchor; the bow pulpit secures two separate anchors on individual rollers. Shore power connections plus fresh and seawater washdown provide extra convenience. The deck is uncluttered with two opening hatches above the master stateroom. Forward of the pilothouse windows is the Portuguese bridge with center access to the foredeck and built-in storage lockers.
Boat Deck
The inflatable AB model VST 13' tender with 60 HP Yamaha engine is stowed on the aft boat deck, above the cockpit. You can access the boat deck up a few stairs from the port side of the pilothouse or Portuguese bridge — all areas of Tapestry are accessed by conventional stairs, no ladders involved. With the dinghy launched via a Nautical Structures Euro 1200 hoist, you have a tremendous deck area available to enjoy.
Flybridge
The raised flybridge is a few easy steps up from the boat deck and provides a commanding view. The helm is ergonomically designed so that all the monitors, gauges, switches and sightlines are clear. There is an additional helm chair on the port bench so that co-captains can both see over the bow. A full Bimini top provides shade and weather cover, and the main mast can be lowered for bridges or tight clearances. There is an L-shaped cushioned settee to port with a table in front of it.
Engine Room
A short distance down via steps from the office area is access to the engine room. The door opens to a very practical and well-laid-out space; the John Deere main engines with Twin Disc transmissions can be serviced on all sides. ABT TRAC hydraulic stabilizers with oversized 9 sq. ft. fins are installed forward and outboard. Dual Racor fuel filters for each main engine and generator are positioned for easy access, and there is a fuel polishing system to ensure clean diesel. Oil changes are conducted using the Reverso oil change system. A Spectra 24V watermaker meets freshwater demands, and the Torrid Marine 30-gallon stainless steel water heater provides ample hot water. A Fireboy automatic fire suppression system is mounted, with an alarm system for bilge high water and loss of cooling water.
