2008 Nordhavn 55

What’s Next is a nicely upgraded, actively enjoyed Nordhavn 55 that has cruised both U.S. coasts, traversed the Panama Canal, and enjoyed countless hours in the Bahamas. She’s at home crossing blue waters, cruising coastal towns, or quietly hanging on a mooring ball or at anchor.

The Nordhavn 55 design is one of the most popular trawlers in the world and What’s Next (which is the owners’ approach to life) is an exceptional version. Hull number 40 is uniquely configured with a larger VIP guest stateroom, complete with an expanded berth, settee, and an oversized shower for your guests in their ensuite head. The owner’s stateroom is midships with a queen sized walk around berth, double hanging lockers, and large port lights that bring in plenty of natural light. The ensuite head has an extralarge shower with granite.

Powered by a John Deere main with keel cooler and dry stack exhaust – a propulsion package that Nordhavn has refined to cross oceans, she employs ABT active fin stabilizers to keep the crew comfortable on passage. Her Furuno TimeZero navigation package was a part of a $120,000 retrofit in 2024 that will provide even the most discerning captain with a plethora of data at their touch screen fingertips.

Air conditioning is designed for keeping her cool in tropical climates whether underway or at rest. The Northern Lights 20 kW generator is as dependable as they come. For back up propulsion she has a Lugger wing engine.

For docking she has a starboard control station at the Portuguese bridge and another in the aft cockpit to go with Side Power electric bow and stern thrusters with a remote. Anchoring is first class with a stainless steel Ultra anchor controlled by a Maxwell 3500 windlass. There is a flopper stopper pole mounted to port for smoothing out rolly anchorages.

For in-cove transportation she has a 2023 Highfield rigid inflatable with a console and a 60 HP Yamaha outboard. There is also a smaller shore/beach launch FRiB brand foldable hard bottom dinghy, two Hobie Mirage pedal-drive kayaks with Biminis and mounting bracket, and a Steelhead 1500 crane for placing your toys efficiently into the water.

On the outside she is all business. Her profile is easily recognizable by the prominent dry stack tower and the three Stidd helm chairs on the flybridge are protected by a cored fiberglass hardtop that will keep you out of the elements and support the solar array boasting three 425 watt solar panels. From her gray hull color to her interior designer touches, What’s Next is a classy Nordhavn 55 that was retrofitted in 2021, and spruced up again in 2025.

The interior wood is a warm, rich cherry with solid cherry trim that is bathed in light from salon windows that are larger than older Nordhavn 55s. The welcoming entry invites you to a large saloon with an L shaped settee, a pair of extra large Stressless chairs, and a birds eye maple table that can seat eight for dinner or allow you to spread out your favorite jigsaw puzzle. The interior soles are teak and spruce and tastefully adorned with machine washable Ruggable rugs, blending elegant styling with stain-resistant, low maintenance functionality.

In 2025 the current owners purchased her to travel through the islands of the Bahamas and Caribbean. They have enjoyed the Nordhavn lifestyle and are ready to tackle America’s Great Loop, making What’s Next available for her next owners.

What’s Next’s owners are organized, neat and tidy people and they brought that approach to their care taking of their yacht. Over the course of their ownership they maintained, upgraded and fixed things that are not visible as much as those in plain sight. They wrote and tested start-up procedures and created a custom web interface to make sure nothing was overlooked. This digital system will help the new owners with the details of yacht ownership.

The vessel benefits from exceptional recordkeeping, including a comprehensive ship's binder and a detailed digital maintenance log maintained in Google Sheets. Together, these resources document service history, repairs, upgrades, equipment manuals, vendor information, maintenance schedules, and operating records. This level of organization provides prospective buyers with valuable transparency into the vessel's care and reflects a proactive, detail-oriented ownership approach.

What’s Next is ready to set out again. You’ll find the keys at the helm and the lines are ready to drop on your first day of ownership.
