Newsletter Q3 Recap "Good to Go"

How Do You Know When You’re Good to Go?

That’s an underlying question most cruisers give a lot of thought (perhaps too much?).

When preparing for a flight, you know it’s time for takeoff when you get the all-clear. When you’re planning your own cruising adventure, who gives you that signal? How do you know when it’s time to cast off the lines, leave the dock, and explore?

One of life’s mysteries is figuring out when the moment is right. Have you covered all your bases? Is there anything else standing between you and the open water?

Most trawler owners I know discovered that no amount of planning could anticipate everything they would encounter along the way. They recognized that, at some point, they needed to put a date on the calendar, check the weather, provision the trawler, and throw a little caution to the wind. They had to leave the safety net of shore behind and head out to explore.

I’m sure there are plenty of boaters sitting in marinas right now, wondering if they’re ready and waiting for the perfect time to depart. Their hesitation is understandable. There’s a lot to consider, and careful planning is important, but you can overthink things.

What’s the harm in setting off, realizing you’ve forgotten something (everybody does!), and figuring it out along the way? As long as your boat is seaworthy, the essentials are taken care of, and the conditions are favorable, perhaps it’s worth taking a chance that the best time is now, not later?

I’m not sure it’s possible to know with absolute certainty when the time is right. Sometimes, you just have to make the decision to go for it.

You might be surprised to discover that you really are good to go!

Don’t ponder, wander.

Our Clients Say It Best

"This is a long overdue thank you for all of your help in our successful search for our first trawler. We didn't really know what we wanted when we started our search, and we very much appreciated your guidance and patience as we looked at a wide variety of full and semi-displacement boats. We felt fully supported at all times and never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision or to change our minds about something. You both made what could have been an unpleasant and stressful task into a very enjoyable one that was as stress-free as buying a boat could be.

You both also went above and beyond anything we ever would have expected a boat broker to do. Whether it was John getting our Bimini fixed and cleaning it in his driveway or sending us a Maritime Medical Emergency Kit, you made clear in multiple ways that our interests were always your priority.

Equally important is that we both feel that we have made two new friends who we will enjoy keeping in touch with and seeing over the years to come. This wasn't what we expected when we decided to buy a trawler, but we're very happy it turned out that way.

By way of a thank you, we have sent each of you some perishables - we have heard good things about them from our friends, and if you enjoy them half as much as we enjoyed working with you, then you should like them very much indeed.

If there is anything we can ever do for either of you in the future, please don't hesitate to let us know. We'd be happy to help you out in any way we can."
